About This Game
The side-view journey in Song of the Deep is the adventure of a 12-year-old girl named Merrin. She spent all her childhood with her father, who constantly told her stories about the sea and the depths, in which nothing is visible except suffocating pressure and rare shoals of predatory fish that are afraid to go up. One day, her father, a fisherman, goes missing, and she goes to rescue him. According to her father’s stories, she knows how to assemble a boat, what equipment to take with her. She goes to explore the ocean, and is convinced of the veracity of most of the terrible tales that her father told her.
The game is a side-scrolling platformer with a significant metroidvania component. Most locations require the player to find specific equipment for Merrin herself and her handcrafted ship at the location. To overcome most of the obstacles, we need pumped equipment, but we can manage without it, but it will be too difficult in the next location.
The game is not designed to constantly fight with enemies. Much of the plot focuses on a gradual, smooth progression leading to the release of Merrin’s father. Puzzles, logical tasks, search for objects and exploration of locations are the main task of the protagonist, but you will also have to kill enemies. A languid off-screen voice will tell us the story of Merrin, her father, and will also notice the features of the passage of the game. All narration is voiced by Siobhan Hewlett.
